Now that we are out of the mountains and the long climbs and have done so many long rides, whether it is 80, 90 or over 100 miles, doesn't seem to matter as much as it did at the beginning of the tour. However, headwinds of 15+ mph do matter.
The scenery was much like you saw yesterday - wide open grassy fields, few trees and no fascinating rock formations. So, didn't stop to take many pictures; but here are some pictures.
Look at all the grass rolls for the cattle. You could see them as far as you looked on either side of the road.
See what I mean about wide open, grassy and no trees; it was like this all day.
Did run across this pasture meeting and thought I had better record it. Not sure who the leaders were!
Pierre is the capital of SD and the second smallest capital next to Montpelier, VT in terms of population at 13,860. It sets on the Missouri River. Here is a view of our approach down to Pierre.
The river is very pretty. This river is the longest in North America and flows east and south for 2,341 miles before entering the Mississippi River north of St. Louis.
We were treated to free beer at the motel. Unfortunately for me, no free soda!
Tomorrow, we venture 84 miles to Chamberlain, SD. Talking headwinds, boo!
Michael and Anne... I have enjoyed your posts! Looks like an incredible adventure. Perhaps I'll get the chance some year to do the same...
ReplyDeleteI was catching up on your photos and it seems you've had some interesting views. This morning, on the Thursday morning ride, Hunsaker, Mears, Ruther and I were treated to an unusual view: GEORGE rode! It was a hoot having him out there. The rest of us were tapering a bit for Lake Geode this weekend, so it was a nice pace for only about 30 miles. Beautiful morning, though.
I hope your travels continue to be enjoyable! Thanks for sharing.
