Day 30 - 114 miles from Worthington to Mankato, MN

Today was a personal record for Anne and Michael as we rode the tandem 114 miles from Worthington to Mankato. It was 113 and not 106, the normal distance, due to road repaving. We even received this certificate from the AB Staff.

Originally, we were planning on making the switch to a single bike at the second SAG; however, we were rolling along well and Anne was up for the challenge even in the 90 degree heat. I am very proud of her as this is by far the longest distance I can remember she has ridden at one time. Kudos to her!

The actual ride was more of the same from a scenery viewpoint as you can see by these pictures.

I have never seen so much corn. In the picture above, you can see corn as far as you can see. One of the things I have noticed different from IA is the corn and bean fields are much larger. Most are of the "as far as you can see" variety. We noticed an ethanol plant today. Certainly, a significant portion of the corn is consumed by these plants.

We stopped at all three SAG stops and drank a lot of liquids; however, we weren't up for much eating. However, we made up for that at dinner at a very good buffet in Mankato.

The last portion of the ride was great in that we finished on a beautiful 8-mile bike path that was mostly downhill, shaded and with many turns and bridges as these pictures show below.

Here Anne is trying to show 113!

We were happy when we reached the hotel!

Tomorrow, it is 99 (of course I will make it 100) from Mankato to Rochester, MN.
